Our Story

In 2011, three women came together with the shared belief that all people should have access to healthcare. They lived in Northeast Georgia, an area with a high level of poverty and no abortion clinics. For low-income people, trying to get to the nearest abortion clinic in Atlanta (often between two to three hours away at a minimum) makes getting an abortion almost impossible. These women knew they had to make abortions accessible to people in north Georgia and the greater southeastern region. As a result, the Georgia Reproductive Justice Access Network (GRJAN) was founded with the goal of helping low-income peope access abortion care through small financial grants and volunteer practical support.

In 2015, after deep self-examination and careful consideration, the board of directors voted unanimously to change the organizaton's name from GRJAN to the Magnolia Fund: Southerners for Reproductive Equity. The Magnolia - a strong, long-lasting, and distinctly Southern flower - signifies their steadfast dedication to supporting people in making the reproductive health decisions that are best for them. It also speaks to their unique work in the Southeast, an area of the country that is deeply rooted in community.

Our Community

Since they began funding in 2012, the Magnolia Fund has assisted more than 200 people throughout the southeast with more than $21,000 in grants.

The Magnolia Fund trains volunteers and holds fundraisers with an educational component. The fund is a proud member of Feminist Women's Health Center's Thriving Families Georgia Coalition

For abortion funds, raising money is half the battle, because they can’t help women unless they have something to give. Donating to your local abortion fund means giving a woman the resources she needs to make the choice that is right for her.
